Caroline Lewis

My inspiration for these beautiful works of art is a deep and profound love of the natural world, which has the power to enchant, surprise and draw you into timeless contemplation. Fresh green leaves against a damp spring sky, bluebells in the woods, the change of the seasons, sweeping vistas glimpsed between old, dark trunks, dew drops on a bright morning, the gurgle of a stream under the ferns, fields of flowers and grain, rivers and oceans and the journeys we make upon them: all this we often just let pass us by, so take a moment to stop and look, breathe and enjoy.

Caroline Lewis studied art in Bristol and has made her journey, through various media, to glass. The jewel-like colour and luminous qualities of the glass attracted her magpie eye and it has been the mainstay of her work these last seven years. Working within such a strict and defiant medium excitingly affects the way in which a piece progresses and eventually finishes. Starting with a free drawing taken at source she develops each piece until it is suitable for glass work, sometimes it all falls into place straight away and sometimes a piece is left for ages before it begins to take its shape. Her fascination with the swoop and swirl of line features strongly, as does colour and texture both within the glass and viewed through it.
