John Hurst
I started to paint seriously after a long illness in 1980 after which I travelled first to the south west of the USA and later to Australia and fell in love with deserts and open spaces and the big skies. It was after visiting Cornwall that I became more interested in the English landscape and in particular the landscape of Cornwall.
It is the texture of the landscape that I am more interested in and how in many ways it becomes surreal and abstract.
To create this I use a mixture of media, using water colour, celulose , acrylics and inks in my paintings and depending
on the order I apply them, different effects are created. Painting to me is an adventure and watching the paint react to
the application of the different media is fascinating.
