Jocelyn Snelson - artist

Originally from N. Cornwall, educated Scotland, E. Anglia and Bristol. Studied for BSc at London University and after variety of jobs of scientific nature trained as Art Teacher in Bristol. Moved back to Cornwall to teach in Penzance, and has lived near St Just since 1972. As well as pewter, enamel work and hand-painted silk scarves, Jocelyn works in watercolour, pastel, and oils and has developed her own approach to capture light and atmosphere in her local sea and landscapes. She has exhibited in London, Tewkesbury, and Bristol; and locally in Newlyn, Penzance, St Just and at Morvah Schoolhouse, including several solo exhibitions. She is also a professional associate for the Society of All Artists (SAA), and runs art classes in St Just.

John Leslie - wildlife photographer

Husband of Jocelyn

John was born and educated in Bristol. He has had a lifelong interest in wildlife, especially birds and insects; and was able to develop this interest into photography while serving in the RAF in Sri Lanka (Ceylon as it then was). Living for many years in Exmouth, he became a keen bird watcher, and has been on many ornithological trips to various parts of the world, most recently to Antarctica, and the Galapagos. Now married to Jocelyn, and living near St Just.

Tony Snelson - photographer and silversmith

Son of Jocelyn

although born in Gloucestershire, he moved to St Just when 12 years old and was educated at Humphrey Davy Grammar School, followed by Plymouth College of Art & Design. Moved up to Scotland to gain experience as goldsmith/jeweller, returning to St Just in 1993. Pattern maker for St Justin Ltd, and freelance jewellery designer. He has always had a keen interest in photography, and is a member of both St Just and Penzance Camera Clubs.

Louise Snelson - photographer

Wife of Tony

Born and educated in St Just and at Penzance Girls Grammar School. Louise has always been a very keen photographer, having had rugby action photos published. Despite having two young children she

has recently qualified as a teaching assistant and works at St Just Primary School. She has a particular interest in wildlife photography; and is a member of St Just and Penzance Camera Clubs.

Henry Snelson - photographer

Son of Tony and Louise, grandson of Jocelyn!

At nine years old, Henry, a pupil at St Just Primary School, is already a gifted photographer, a member of both St Just and Penzance Camera Clubs, and winning commendations amongst adult competitors. He says he particularly likes taking portraits.

Amelia Snelson - photographer

Daughter of Tony and Louise, grand-daughter of Jocelyn

Just 5 years old, but already a prize-winner at the Spring Show for this photograph.
