Trees Seas and Seabirds

Exhibition at the Morvah School House Gallery,
Morvah, Pendeen

15th – 28th May 2010

The  Exhibition brings together the work of  artists Joan Speight and Irene McDonnell, each with a very individual style and producing distinctive paintings of the diverse Cornish landscape.   The exhibition is complimented by the unique work of wood carver Geoffrey Bickley

Joan Speight –  Painting for eight years and working in both oil and acrylic, strength of colour is a recurring theme in her work as are the distinctive trees and rugged coast  of Cornwall.   She has been tutored by local professional artists and has had guidance and critic from John Piper.  Her work can also be seen in the Market House Gallery, Marazion.
Irene McDonnell -  Living most of her life in Cornwall, Irene is mainly self taught.    The completion  of a Foundation Course with the Open College of Arts in l989 gave her the confidence to paint seriously.  She works in both oils and acrylics and is drawn to the wild land and seascapes of West Cornwall.   Her work can be seen in the Seagrove Gallery, Marazion.

Geoffrey Bickley  has spent most of his life at sea but for the last 17 years has made his living from Carving Birds.
He specialises in Birds from around the Cornish Coast.  Many hours are spent on the beaches and at Hayle Estuary observing and sketching.

From a baulk of wood a graceful outline will emerge.  He captures the absolute essence of our ‘feathered friends’ from a single bird to a flock on the shoreline.
