Morvah West Cornwall

The moorland parish of Morvah, on the north-western seaboard of the Penwith peninsula between St Just and Zennor, contains much unspoiled hill scenery. The area also has a unique place in Britain's natural history with many species of flora and fauna found nowhere else in the British Isles.

The Morvah School House

Housed in a beautiful converted Wesleyan chapel dating back to 1744, the Schoolhouse is situated at the edge of the Atlantic Ocean, surrounded by countryside that takes your breath away.

Our gallery exhibits locally and nationally renowned artists of diverse disciplines, and in the Tea Room, locally handcrafted items such as stained glass, pottery, jewellery and cards are for sale, as well as delicious home-made cakes, teas, coffee and hot snacks are available. We offer internet facilities and have full disabled access to all areas of the building.
The Morvah Schoolhouse also operates as the parish community centre offering a dynamic range of events and activities for local people and visitors alike.
And we are open all year round!
On this site you will find much information about both Morvah and The Schoolhouse - please take the time to look round!

‘The Turning Year'

‘The Turning Year’ Exhibition of recent paintings and drawings by Tom Henderson Smith with ceramics by Jacob Bodilly begins on Tuesday 3rd April and continues until Friday 13th April with a private view on Sunday 8th April from 2pm to 4pm.

Tom’s work takes inspiration from the festivals, people, natural forms and maritime light of West Cornwall. The Turning Year, a collection of his recent paintings and drawings, focuses on the fact that constant changes of weather bring life to the landscape and nowhere more so than in Cornwall.

April 3rd - 13th will see his exhibition based around this theme at the gallery.

Complementing these pieces will be a selection of recent large bottle vases by Jacob Bodilly of Boscean Pottery, St Just. These too have been selected to reflect a feeling of the changing seasons.

an example of viv's work

‘Viv Albright’s’ exhibition begins on Saturday 14th April with a private view on Sunday 15th April from 2pm to 4pm, and continues until Friday 27th April.

Special chance to see the recent work of this fascinating artist who says about drawing : -

‘Drawing is a constant practise for accumulating, investigating and working through the process of development into final works, which incorporate other medias, collage, paint, and print.

The connection between drawing and painting is cyclical not linear, constantly rerouting developments through a tangible engagement in image making, with repetition leading to transformation.'
