The Schoolhouse

The Schoolhouse Arts & Community Centre serves the tiny, ancient parish of Morvah, West Cornwall, as a coffee shop, gallery and local meeting rooms. Conceived and set up by inhabitants of Morvah itself, with funding from the Millennium Commission, the Rural Development Agency, Penwith District Council and lots of local fund-raising, it is owned and managed by the registered local charity 'Morvah Action for the Community and Arts'.

The Schoolhouse actively promotes community cohesion, provides local employment and brings a renewed sense of identity and achievement to our rural area.

It is the beating heart of our small community.

Before the building opened in April 1999, there was no community building in Morvah. Now, the Schoolhouse provides a focal point for the residents, from farmers to artists, children and retired people. We can't imagine life without it.

The Schoolhouse hosts workshops, poetry, music, events, educational talks and community meetings, including Parish Meetings and elections. We run classes in art and computing and a weekly social group for adults. Meanwhile, our informal cafe acts as welcome resting point for all our visitors.

Every penny from every sale at the Schoolhouse is used to maintain our building, pay our three hard working staff members and to fund future projects.

So, if you call in for a cup of coffee, attend a jazz evening, send an email or simply to enjoy the beauty and tranquillity of our gallery.................

.......... We hope you enjoy your visit
